LGBT is a collective term for sexual minorities, comprising the first letters of the words, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender. In this exhibition, “Q” and “+” have been added to reflect sexualities and gender identities not covered by LGBT and to take account of a wider range of sexualities and gender identities. Q is for “questioning,” referring to those who have not (yet) determined their sexuality and/or gender identity, and for “queer,” referring to people whose sexuality and/or gender identity is/are not included in what society assumes to be “normal.” The symbol “+” encompasses various other diverse aspects of sexuality and gender identity.
